This year began with a performance at XL Lounge. It was a fun show. The contestants made me smile. Will was funny too.In order to sing at night, I have to find another day job. I chose to work in the IT field because it is always in demand and you make a great deal when you work freelance. Of course creating a momentum of steady clients in the task to accomplish. Then I can afford to pay for another album recording,the best musicians in the city, for promo materials, etc. My mind is preoccupied with survival at this point. I have several computer certifications at this point, but I am still preparing for my Microsoft exams. This dream of wanting to support myself only from my music always gnaws at me and it is not going anywhere. Music is my refuge. Danny invited me to a gig at the blue note. He was incredible as was Tamar-Kali and Robin. His drummer Rocky was also excellent. Everything was in the pocket. I was in awe. Although, I have not reached my goal of singing for a living, I am so blessed to be in the presence of wonderful musicians. They keep me going. Their talent, their light.
I am not sure what the future holds. But I am still here like Celie says in the Color Purple.
